Играть + на

Use this form when you are talking about playing an instrument.

Form: играть на + prepositional case

Examples

  • Я играю на гитаре. (I play the guitar.)
  • Ты играешь на пианино. (You play the piano.)
  • Он играет на скрипке. (He plays the violin.)

Играть + в

Use this form when you are talking about playing a game or sport.

Form: играть в + accusative case

Examples

  • Я играю в футбол. (I play football.)
